As a proud Network Partner of The Possibilists, Recipes for Wellbeing has been at the forefront of understanding and supporting changemaker wellbeing. The insights from previous Possibilists studies have been invaluable in shaping our work and validating the critical importance of our newly developed Wholebeing Framework.

The data from the 2023 Report shares a concerning picture:

66% of young changemakers cannot compensate themselves adequately,

59% are juggling various responsibilities and feel stretched too thin, and

64% are negatively impacted by systemic inequalities.

These statistics underscore why our focus on Wholebeing – the practice of embracing the full spectrum of human experiences while integrating personal, community, and planetary flourishing – is more crucial than ever. As the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu wisely observed, in our competitive world, stomach ulcers have become status symbols among young people. The Possibilists Study serves as a vital pressure monitor on the pulse of the changemaking community, helping us understand whether we are forming collective ulcers through burnout, or collective unity through belonging.

We are pleased to share the launch of The Possibilists Study 2025, the third global research effort exploring the impact, challenges, and needs of young changemakers aged 14–35 who lead social and environmental initiatives. This scientific study will directly inform actionable recommendations for funders, policymakers, and ecosystem leaders, helping create a more supportive changemaking ecosystem.

The most inclusive edition to date

Initiated by ChangemakerXchange, The Possibilists is a collaborative effort by 22 global and over 200 local support networks for changemakers from around the world. The 2025 edition is the most inclusive yet, available in eight languages. This multilingual approach ensures it will be easier to capture diverse perspectives and experiences, creating recommendations that truly reflect the global changemaker community.

Previous studies have already catalysed significant shifts in how ecosystem players support changemakers. From our side, it has provided crucial data that has helped us better understand the challenges changemakers face and the wellbeing support they need, which in turn has contributed to the development of our Wholebeing Framework. Your participation in the 2025 study will help shape both immediate support systems and long-term structural changes that promote sustainable changemaking.
